How the Debt Coach uses AI

Last Updated: August 27, 2026

The Debt Coach is debtbrak’s read-only coaching assistant. It can help you understand your debt roadmap, active mission, and credit behaviors you control. This page explains, in plain language, what information it uses, how responses are generated, and what it cannot do. Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service govern your use of debtbrak.

At a glance

  • The Debt Coach can explain your debt roadmap, active mission, payoff projections, and controllable credit behaviors.
  • It cannot move money, initiate payments, edit transactions, or open or close accounts.
  • debtbrak sends only the context selected as relevant to your question to OpenAI’s API.
  • debtbrak does not sell your financial data or AI conversations, use them for advertising, or opt in to train OpenAI models with Debt Coach content.
  • AI can make mistakes. The Debt Coach is not a financial advisor and its responses are not professional advice.

What the Debt Coach may use

The context depends on what you ask. A general question may not require any personal financial data. A question about your own finances may use some of the following information from your authenticated debtbrak account:

debtbrak minimizes the snapshot before it is sent and does not intentionally send full account numbers, financial-account credentials, Social Security numbers, or private keys to the AI provider. Do not enter passwords, one-time passcodes, full card numbers, government identification numbers, or other unnecessary sensitive information in a Debt Coach message.

How a response is generated

  1. debtbrak authenticates your account and reviews the type of question you asked.
  2. debtbrak selects the context reasonably needed for that question. Some requests use summary-level data; detailed transaction data is included only when the question calls for it.
  3. Your message and selected context are sent securely from debtbrak’s server to OpenAI’s API.
  4. OpenAI generates a response, which debtbrak returns to you.

debtbrak sets OpenAI API requests not to store generated responses as application state for later retrieval. OpenAI may still retain API inputs, outputs, and related metadata for a limited period for abuse monitoring, security, or legal compliance under its API data controls. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train or improve its models by default unless the customer opts in. debtbrak does not opt in with Debt Coach content.

Conversation history and memory

debtbrak stores up to the latest 120 messages in a Debt Coach conversation to provide continuity. The app currently displays messages from the most recent 24 hours. Older stored messages may remain until they are replaced by newer messages or your debtbrak account is deleted.

The Debt Coach may also save a limited set of preferences, planning assumptions, rejected suggestions, and app-education status. Saved memory is helper context only. It is not live financial data, cannot override current debtbrak values, and does not give the Debt Coach permission to act for you.

What the Debt Coach cannot do

Your choices

Using the Debt Coach is optional. You can stop using it at any time. You can delete your debtbrak account through supported in-app controls, which deletes the user data stored under your account, including Debt Coach conversation history and saved memory, subject to limited information we may retain when required or permitted by law. You may also contact contact@debtbrak.com with privacy questions or deletion requests.

Important limitation

AI systems generate responses based on patterns and context. A response can be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated even when it sounds confident. Check important information against your official account records and consult a qualified professional before making a significant financial decision.
